Prefabricated Masonry
Prefabricating some or all of the masonry as panels or elements can be a cost effective system for the erection of some masonry structures. Manufacturers or mason contractors can prefabricate elements for specific projects, with proper engineering to accommodate the stresses and segment connections.
Panels can be single wythe and multi-wythe. Backing systems can be masonry, studs or structural steel frames with veneer of concrete masonry, brick or stone. Not just for a building’s exterior skin, they make excellent highway sound barriers. Elements like lintels or beams or even ornamental segments lend themselves well to prefabrication.
Training
IMI offers contractor and craftworker certification in Grouting & Reinforced Masonry, a critical part of constructing many prefabricated panels, plus project-specific support. For designers, IMI offers seminars and New Product Expos.
